I have long been an atheist, and I despise the religious' descriptions of atheism as empty, as hollow, as a despairing way to live. I despise their descriptions of atheism as filled with hate and loathing. To see this video and understand what it means, and where we humans stand within the universe we inhabit...
It fills me with a sense of wonder and awe. It makes me want to shout and dance: I am here!
Maybe I can help to figure this out! It makes me so happy to be a part of all this! The jaw dropping, stagging beauty of the universe that is revealed by science; all that is revealed by questioning and experiment. There's so much out there... My only real despair and sadness is knowing that I'll never be able to see it all, to understand it all, to visit all of it.
However, I know I have what I have here, right now...on this planet...our only home. A lonely speck of dust we call Earth...
